How big is it? That depends on how you look at it. The park includes over a million acres of land – 1, , But most people measure the canyon in river miles, along the course of the Colorado River at the bottom of the canyon. The Colorado River is longer, of course: Grand Canyon is only one of many beautiful canyons which the river has carved. Many people agree, however, that Grand Canyon is the most spectacular. There’s simply no other place in the world that looks quite like it.
Anglers heading to the Grand Canyon or looking for a summer heat escape to the pines should consider what many of our guides consider their favorite destination, Lake Mary in Flagstaff, Arizona. Flagstaff is the gateway to the Grand Canyon, and North of Phoenix about 90 miles. At cool elevations above feet, this Arizona gem of a waterway is home to some of the best Northern Pike fishing in the southwest!
Pike are extremely aggressive fish, and a favorite fish for conventional anglers and fly fishermen, as they are known for violent strikes and hard pulling battles. We outfit our trips with 21 foot Ranger bass boats or 24 foot Ranger bay boats so there is plenty of room to fish how ever you prefer. Most of the time pike stalk the shallows for baitfish, which makes this an active fish for everyone.

February 25, Grand Magic: Packrafting the Grand Canyon A float trip down the mile length of the Grand Canyon is one that many friends have called a once in a lifetime experience, special, and magical. It’s a trip I figured I’d take later in life when time and use slow my body down, but this past June Mike C said “I’ve got a Grand Canyon river permit and you’re invited. His presentation was excellent and he set the hook. I signed up and paid my fees. Summer and fall were spent riding bikes and boating progressively bigger, higher volume water to prepare for the Grand.
As cold weather returned, thoughts of paddling and the trip were buried under the snow that fell. Our departure date snuck up quickly and in the midst of pre-trip anxiety, Keri and I were running to REI for last minute details. Morning saw us completing the park service inspection and dragging boats into the cold, green waters of the Colorado River. Though on the surface the waters appeared lazy, it was clear there was no shortage of power pushing us along at a steady 6mph.
Our laughter and joking trickled off as we floated through invisible gates beneath Navajo Bridge.
Have you done this trail? Just for comparison, is there any trail here with an equivalent difficulty and beauty? Tracey We have reservations to camp in June. We wanted to hike down to the Colorado River while there.
From Flagstaff, AZ. take State route 89 North to Cameron, this is about 2 miles after your turn off but you’ll be ready for a little break by now any way.

If it’s the last thing I do! The world’s most famous crook! He is the captain of a crew of pirates aboard the Jolly Roger and the archenemy of Peter Pan. Captain Hook has long since abandoned sailing the high seas in favor of having revenge on Peter Pan for cutting off his left hand and feeding it to Tick-Tock, considering it, by Mr. Smee , a “childish prank”. While a worthy opponent for Peter Pan, Hook is destined to fail, sometimes because of Peter Pan’s ability to fly, but more often through the bumbling actions of his first mate, Mr.
Smee, who while unquestioningly faithful to the Captain, is incompetent and dim-witted. Hook ends up fleeing for his life from the Crocodile, of whom he is understandably terrified. Hook’s frustrations are understandable; he lost a hand to his opponent, is constantly pursued by the crocodile and cannot fly.
